Project-2: Final character design

This is my final character sheet ready for hand-in. Also created the whole poster in the theme of a jail-suspect-mugshot-photo thing. LOL!

Project-2: Creating a reference image

I sketched the front, side and back views of my ape so when I draw it out in Illustrator, I have reference images and stuff. I'm just planning to draw over the faded sketches because in my sketches, I know exactly where I want the points to be, etc. Bad photo qualities again, sorry haha.

Project-2: Sketching the character

Sketching the character in my sketchbook.

Sorry about the bad photos cos I took them with my digital camera.

Just testing out and drawing this particular ape design I had in mind already anyways. For the fun of it, I tried to apply the anime eyes on the ape and it just looked too weird and happy so nevermind HAHAHAHA

Close up of the ape. By this point I've already made up my mind about the looks of my ape anyways.

Just making notes on the common features of an ape that I have observed around, such as the overbite jaws and the snouty nose.

Just an attempt at a smiling ape, testing the emotions and stuff.

Project-2: Existing character designs

Just one of the 'types' of illustration that I find quite nice, but I'm not going to be using this style. I was thinking of not using outlines but then I changed my mind.

Something like this would be quite nice. I was just observing the styles of illustrations like these, and before, I would illustrate with black outlines but I think it just takes a little character feeling out of it so I've decided to use an outline according to the base colour.
Definitely not going to have a 'serious' and 'accurate' character design like this, but it looks really good so yeah.

OH! This is SO good. This is such a nice piece of reference haha! The gangster boss looking ape in human clothes, living in a ghetto-looking place plus bananas. Too good.

Nice and thick outlines, I like!

A different style of illustration without outlines and stuff. This kinda stuff reminds me of story book covers, etc.
I LIKE! :D

Quite cute too, like a big and fat and furry ape.

Researched and observed different styles to illustrate my character, etc.

Project-2: Developing a character

This is the next project. We've established a fictional world, which is a future world of humans who struggle to co-exist with these gangster apes, etc.

Now, I have to come up with a character design based on my group's concept. I have decided to design an ape, rather than a human. I haven't thought of the specific details (e.g. name) for my character yet but here are just the basic ideas.

Character Physiology

Age: Maybe around 20ish?
Gender: Male
Species: Ape

Character Psychology

Values: Probably none LOL
Description: Badass? Goes crazy. Likes to destroy things when excited etc.

Character Sociology

Social status: Just one of them gangstaz.
Education: Good education but he's just evil (before he turned into an ape)

But I know for sure that...

My character will be an ape, and probably more on the sophisticated side. Reason he's picked to be one of the main characters and deserves to be illustrated is cos out of the crazy angry apes in this fictional world, he is also one of the more sophisticated ones and I'd like to elaborate on that quality. I definitely want the exterior of this character to have a more 'cartoony' and 'happier' look because that's the direction I want to go into, rather than making them very angry and scary looking.

Just found a perfect illustrator that best summarizes the 'attitude' of my ape. Big boss, angry but calm, sophisticated and intimidating, etc. etc. I LOVE THIS PICTURE! haha
